The course offers an introductory overview of CLO3D, the leading software for 3D fashion simulation.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of digital pattern making, from the creation of virtual patterns to simulation on 3D avatars, up to the realistic visualization of the garment. The course is designed for those who want to approach digital fashion design, even without prior experience in the field.
Teaching methodology: The course includes lectures with guided exercises, live demonstrations, individual work, and personalized feedback. The focus is on hands-on learning, with continuous support from the instructor. The course concludes with the presentation of a virtual outfit created by each student.
At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance will be issued to participants who attend at least 8 out of the 10 scheduled lessons. This certificate may be eligible for recognition of 2 academic credits (CFA).
Program
- Introduction to 3D Fashion Design: Overview of 3D design in fashion. Introduction to CLO3D software and its capabilities. Program setup and interface. Launch of a basic project. Basic tools for building 2D patterns.
- Creating digital patterns: From shape to virtual stitching. Simulation on predefined avatars.
- Basic digital pattern making: In-depth focus on editing and customizing models. Darts, shaping, sleeves, collars. Adding technical details.
- Materials, textures, and fabric simulation: Application of fabrics and management of material physics. Study of photographic textures and realistic rendering.
- Avatar customization and virtual fitting: Advanced use of the avatar (size, measurements, pose). Tools for evaluating fit and simulating movement.
- Accessories, finishes, and tailoring details: Belts, buttons, topstitching, zippers. Adding digital accessories to enhance the realism of the simulated garment.
- 3D in the professional world: Professional roles in the sector (digital fashion designer / CLO3D technician), with project presentations and in-class discussion.
- Development of the individual final project: Each participant creates an original 3D garment or mini look, with support from the instructor. Collective review and feedback.
- Final project presentation and discussion: Sharing of final projects, mock-ups for portfolio, peer feedback and open discussion on future pathways.

Course Fee:
€450 (single payment) or two installments of €230 (first installment due at the time of enrollment, second installment due 30 days later)

Lecturer
Martino Fois
Martino Fois is a fashion designer and CAD pattern maker specializing in collection development, virtual prototyping, and trend research for both women’s and men’s apparel. With a solid academic background from Politecnico di Milano and international experience at ENSAD in Paris, he furthered his studies in menswear pattern making at Istituto Secoli.
He currently works as a trend consultant for FLAB and teaches university-level courses at Ferrari Fashion School, where he leads classes on Clo3D and technical drawing. He has conducted research at the Gianfranco Ferré Research Center and supports academic activities at Politecnico di Milano as a subject matter expert in collection development and CAD pattern making courses.
Proficient in software such as Modaris, Clo3D, and Adobe Suite, he combines technical expertise with creative vision in every project.
